INDIANA DUNES
While Indiana Dunes National Park is a park that sounds like it may mimic Great Sand Dunes National Park, it is quite the opposite. As one of the most diverse ecosystems in the NPS, Indiana Sand Dunes has so much to offer by way of lush, green landscape. From forests to wetlands, to yes of course sand dunes, the park has a rich diversity of flora and fauna. Nestled right on the shore of Lake Michigan, this park is one that will utterly defy your expectations.
We had the opportunity to spend two days in Indiana Sand Dunes National Park and one day in Indiana Dunes State Park (which is nestled within the National Park). Both of these spaces offered so much variety as far as trails go. From walking in the deep woods to alongside bogs, to taking long strolls down the sandy beaches of Lake Michigan, there was a lot to love.
Indiana Dunes National Park is on the traditional and stolen land of the Kickapoo, Peoria, Kaskaskia, Potawatomi, and Myaamia people.
