GETTYSBURG & CATOCTIN MOUTAIN

During the first year of the pandemic, after many of lockdowns and travel restrictions had been lifted or eased, we wanted to try to get outdoors and explore a little after being cooped up for so long. After a lot of careful planning and thinking, we decided that traveling to Gettysburg National Military Park in Pennsylvania and Catoctin Mountain in Maryland (which are only 30 minutes from one another), were our safest and best bets.

Mike had visited Gettysburg before on several class trips as a chaperone, but had really explored a prescribed set of stopping points and Dusty had never been, so needless to say this was a new venture for the both of us. On top of that, this trip also was our introduction to camping, as we had purchased a bunch of camping equipment prior to the start of the pandemic with the impetus to use it, and this was that experience.

After having the opportunity to explore Gettysburg both by car and on foot and retrace the events of the day, we were able to get to Catoctin Mountain, hiking both the Western and Eastern Loops in a single day.
